Activate Your Inner Focus: Meditation 101 for Adventurers of Any Level
Category:
When you think of meditation, you might imagine sitting perfectly still, your mind a blank canvas, floating peacefully in a bubble of calm. And sure, that’s one way to meditate—but it’s far from the only way. Meditation is as varied as the heroes on an epic quest: some stand still, others walk, and some… well, let’s just say they end with explosions of pleasure (We’ll cover that last one later, with an 18+ warning. Stay tuned).
I’m here to tell you that meditation doesn’t have to look a certain way. If you feel the need to move during a session, embrace it. It’s your body’s way of processing and moving energy, and resisting that urge might block the very flow you’re trying to cultivate. You can sit still if that feels right, but you don’t have to.
What Meditation Can Look Like
- Still Meditations (The Wizard’s Contemplation):
- Sit, lie down, or even recline like royalty. Focus on your breath, a mantra, or just let your mind wander without judgment and when you catch it, go back to your chosen focus.
- This is perfect when you need to recharge your mental “mana.”
- Moving Meditations (The Ranger’s Wander):
- Try walking meditations, yoga, or even mindful stretching.
- Focus on the sensations of movement: the way your feet connect with the ground or how your body flows through space.
- Guided Meditations (The Bard’s Melody):
- If you need a little instruction or audio prompts to bring you back to focus, guided meditations are your best ally. They’re especially great if you have a specific goal in mind, like clearing stuck energy or manifesting abundance.
- I love guided meditations like energy cleanses or Tiffany Carter’s abundance walking meditations. The audio guidance helps anchor my focus, which can wander faster than a rogue chasing treasure.
- Explosive Meditations (The Sorcerer’s Surge):
- Some meditative practices combine energy work with intensely pleasurable sensations. This is advanced-level magic, and we’ll talk about it in a future post—behind an 18+ warning barrier.
My Take: Your Meditation, Your Rules
I’ve had sessions where sitting still felt impossible, and others where stillness felt like coming home. Some meditations left me buzzing with creative energy, while others pulled me deep into serene silence. One thing I’ve learned? Listening to your body is part of the practice. If it wants to move, let it. That’s the magic of energy shifting.
Cool Things I’ve Experienced While Meditating
Meditation isn’t just about calming your mind; it’s about unlocking your body’s subtle powers. For example, during still meditations, I like to focus on moving heat to my hands and feet (they’re always cold). Within a few minutes, I can get my hands radiating warmth like I’ve activated a fire spell. My feet? Well, they’re still a work in progress. Let’s just say they’re stubborn NPCs.
I’ve also had meditations where I’ve seen vibrant colors swirling behind my closed eyes, felt waves of energy rise and fall, and even had sudden, crystal-clear insights pop into my mind like divine downloads or inloads as I’m starting to call them, as they load from within.
Your First Quest: Activate Your Inner Focus
If you’re new to meditation, start simple:
- Find a comfortable position (sitting, lying, or moving—it’s your choice!).
- Focus on your breath. Count each inhale and exhale if your mind starts to wander.
- Try a guided meditation if you’d like some help staying focused or want to work toward a specific goal.
- Set a timer for 5 minutes and just observe what happens.
Tune in every Thursday in March as we go deeper into each of the aforementioned meditation modalities. As always, what I do may not work the best for you. This is a take-off point to try things out until you find what works for YOU!
Remember, meditation is not about trying to “empty” your mind. It’s about giving your mind space to be.
